Kayaking, that is my passion. It's what I do, what I look forward to. My best
times are often on the water by myself, yet I find great pleasure in sharing
trips or guiding others
I'm retired now, but that does not mean that I'm not busy. The last 40 some
years have been spent paddling, sailing, mountain biking and camping. This
is something that will continue to be a focus of mine. Sadly over time and
numerous moves, I've lightened my load and disposed of pictures that
documented this play time.
That is changing. Now thanks to digital cameras it is easier to photograph my
trips. In fact I can shoot hundreds of pictures and as long as I do not print
all of them it is much cheaper than it used to be. After review I find that most
of the pictures are not keepers, so I don't. And a large part of what is left is
interesting only to me. This must be true because I've looked at other
collections of pictures and even if the person is good most of the pictures are
boring.
So here is my plan. The first section will be birds. I love watching birds and
have found that I can get quite close to them in a boat. I'm opening with a
series of pictures of am osprey. Most of the pictures will be taken while I'm in
kayak or in a canoe.
The next group of photo will be of rivers, creeks or large
bodies of water. The rivers that I have spent time on will be listed individually
in a regional format. If you see one that you want more information on, then
please contact me.
The last section will be the one covering the building of a sea kayak. This will
a photo journal of the process. A number of people have done this. I'm doing
it for fun. As for experience, well I'm a carpenter of 35 years, the last 20 being
spent helping build high end sailboats. I have never built a strip plank boat,
nor have I built a boat totally by myself. I look forward to it. It should be
interesting.
