The thing that ties all the rivers, bays, and gulf together
is that I have paddled at least part of all these listed
waterways.
I will add some pictures of these bodies of water as I find
them. Now I'll just list the places I,ve pattled in Floriada.
A group of us went to the Panhandle region. We did a
river a day while there. I left early but did these 5.
BLACKWATER RIVER. A beautiful river made for camping The river is dotted with high sand bars. A real shame that its 8 hours drive from home.
COLDWATER CREEK, Another great paddle. It passed Adventures Unlimited where I stayed. Well run campgrounds, with shuttles and meal if needed.
JUNIPER CREEK. These 2 creeks are similar. Very pretty, tight and twisty. They are located on Eglin Air Force base and a permit is required, good for 1 year.
TURKEY CREEK. The other Eglin creek I traveled.
YELLOW RIVER
This group of 13 is in the middle of the state. They are
spring feed and clear.
ALEXANDER SPRINGS. Beautiful, but do on weekdays. Too much time waiting for newbee, who stick their boats in the trees (tight, twisty. excellent) flip and try to get back in.
CHASSAHOWITZKA RIVER. Open paddle (no shade) with some of the best springs one can see.
CRYSTAL RIVER. The river starts in town (Crystal River) then goes to the Gulf. Expect to see manatee in town.
HOMOSASSA RIVER
ICHETUCKNEE RIVER.
JUNIPER SPRINGS
OCKLAWAHA RIVER
RAINBOW RIVER
SANTA FE RIVER
SALT RIVER (I do not think this is spring feed)
SILVER RIVER
WEEKI WATCHEE RIVER
WITHLACOOCHEE RIVER (south)
The next group of 12 differs in location and source.
These are tanic rivers. Their waters come from run-off
not springs. They are 40 miles north of Tampa and
south.
ALIFIA RIVER
ANCLOTE RIVER
BRADEN RIVER
FISHEATING CREEK
GAMBLE CREEK
GREEN SWAMP
HILLSBOROUGH RIVER. My favorite (top 2) river in Florida. I've covered more of this river than any other. More bird life, animal life, just more feeling of life than any other that I,ve paddled.
LITTLE MANATEE RIVER
MANATEE RIVER
MYAKKA RIVER
PEACE RIVER. Fossil collecting is another of my hobbies. For collecting one needs low water and short trips with long days are the rule and the river's pretty.
TROUT CREEK
The Rest are the same region, but salt water. This
list is 17 long.
ANCLOTE KEY
BISHOP HARBOR
BUTTON WOOD CANEL & COOT BAY
CALADESI ISLAND. With a mangrove tunnel of over 1 mile its the perfect summer open water paddle.
CAYO COSTA (ISLAND)
COCKROACH BAY
DOUBLE BRANCH CREEK
THE KITCHEN
LONG BAYOU
MIGUEL BAY
MERRITT ISLAND NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE. Drove 2 1/2 hr each way just to watch fish in the dark. Seriously, the bioluminescent display I witnessed was worth getting home just before dawn. I'm already planning for next summer when I will go again.
PINE ISLAND SOUND
ROCKY CREEK
ST JOSEPH SOUND
TAMPA BAY
UPPER TAMPA BAY PARK
WEEDEN ISLAND
